Turning early-stage projects into marketable assets
Universities and academic research institutions usually release their projects at a stage well before proof-of-concept in animal models. Achieving a direct partnership with the industry at this stage is generally very difficult, since the risk of failure is still very high and commercial valuations therefore still poor.
This is where the LDC steps in as an intermediary
The LDC provides the appropriate drug discovery know-how and infrastructure required to advance early-stage projects and yield pharmaceutical leads with strong commercial potential, ready for partnering with industry. The research conducted at the LDC is not a pure fee-for-service, but rather a mixed form of project participation and contract research – at moderate rates and shared risks. LDC has a strong track record in securing additional public funding and a grant application for government subsidies to fund joint projects will be made on a case-by-case basis.
At reasonable costs, partners can thus build substantial value around their projects through the cooperation with the LDC. Furthermore, they can continue to contribute during the drug discovery phase and attain a steep value increase for their background IP. In trilateral partnerships, the LDC also provides valuable contacts to industrial partners.
LDC partnerships: shared risk and revenues
The LDC is committed to a genuinely cooperative style of partnership with partners working hand-in-hand to attain optimal results. New IP generated in the course of the drug discovery process will be shared between the LDC and its partners according to the respective intellectual and financial contribution of each party. The same applies to jointly accrued licensing income. Upon successful commercialization, the LDC and its partners will thus be able to benefit from the upside of jointly created high-quality leads.
