A sustainable financing concept
With its sophisticated, market-focused approach to drug discovery, the LDC is set to generate substantial revenues in the long term for stakeholders and partners, from licensing agreements with industry. Funding of day-to-day operations, however, is based on various public and private sources: project-based funding from the Max Planck Society, donations (e.g. from the Max Planck Foundation), government subsidies (e.g. from the Ministry for Innovation, Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia, the German Ministry of Education and Research and the EU) and funding from partnerships with the industry. The LDC only works on fully funded projects, but can help with fund-raising for new, interesting projects. However, a proportion of the funding should always come from the private sector.
Independence from the capital market
The LDC team strives to unlock the potential of every single project – without being bound by the rules of capital markets – which typically demand short-term return on investment and quick success at any cost. The LDC’s approach is rather adaptive to suit individual project requirements, motivating academic experts to contribute their recent scientific findings to the projects.
